 Item — Box: CHUD 6

Scope and Contents

Nealis has left her husband who refuses to support her and her children. Under the advice of the Bishop, she has come to Boston to make a living. In order to save her boys, aged 13, 10 and 5, she will send them to New York to a night school. Nealis has an income of $200 per year with which she can educate her boys. This income comes from the money her mother left. Nealis has left the money to Father C. Lefebvre, C.S.C., who has agreed to take the boys and educate them at St. Joseph's College. After this, Nealis went to board with her husband who is well off. He refused to give Nealis either money or clothes. On the advice of her confessor she came to Boston. John Boyle O'Reilly and Katherine Conway are trying to help. Nealis is at St. Joseph's home with Mother Mary until she can get something to do. It has been suggested that she do some writing to get money. Mrs. Sadlier has promised to publish any book that she will write. Enclosed is an article which Nealis wishes Hudson to comment on. Nealis sends articles hoping that Hudson finds them satisfactory. :: X-2-m A.L.S. 8pp. 12mo.
