Father William Wayrich thought McMaster's criticism was too severe and that the book on the whole was good but he suggested that the book would create the ambition in young girls and teach them to become adventuresses. He consideres Father Wayrich's opinion valuable but whether McMaster is right or wrong will involve him in expense so he sends fifty dollars to defray part of the cost of...

He regrets that he cannot comply with Edwards' request for the Manuscript of "Notes on Ingersoll". The book was published piece-meal in the Waterloo Observor and the manuscript thrown away. The best he can do is to give Edwards the pencil with which he wrote the book. "Tactics of Infidels" also was written with it.

Lambing expresses his sympathy on the destruction of the University. He received Hudson's letter and the style of the pamphlet is good. There is a mission being given by the Jesuit fathers and this takes up some of his leisure time. Lambing is going to order more copies of the "Mixed Marriage" and will pay for them at that time. His "History of the Dioceses of Pittsburg and Allegheny" is in press with Benziger Brothers, New York, and is being printed at the rate of 20-25 pages a day. The book will be the size of "Smith's Elements of Ecclesiastical Law." He asks how "Mixed Marriages" is selling.
