The Bishop Believes that the nine invitations he has given away are to the best Catholics, in his pinion. He will bestow the remaining invitation upon a deserving person soon. He asks for more invitations for others.

He extends congratulations on Purcell's fifteith anniversary of his ordination. He was a priest before Hogan was born and was laying the foundations of a great province before Hogan opened a catechism. Therefore he is a source of great amazement. May God permit him many more years to guard and gladden the faithful. Miss Hogan sends the sentiments of one of her Sodalists written on the death of a Sister Sodalist, Amelia Dormer. She would like to have this inserted in the Ave Maria if worthy, and it would confer a favor to the members of Young Ladies Sodality of the Blessed Virgin. As the plan is somewhat indefinite he can hardly give a positive promise but should the committee call on him for some lectures on ethics he would try to comply. Scope and Contents It is true that Funk and Wagnalls have been unfriendly to Catholics and Holaind consented to correct the blunders in the definition of Catholic words to keep Dr. (Edward) McGlynn or some other enemy of Archbishop (Michael Augustine Corrigan) from obtaining control of that department of the Dictionary. Not more than $100 has been promised. Dr. Funk and others have treated him with great consideration. P.S. When the dictionary is completed, it will have cost very nearly one million dollars....

McMahon should not be surprised if the professors treated him coldly on the question of preparing extra lectures. She did the work at Mr. Benziger's request last summer, giving the authors' names when known.
