Murphy did not expect to reach Notre Dame before winter, but now expects to arrive there shortly. His health has failed him and he must cancel all engagements in the west and return to Ireland. Murphy has been busy giving a mission in Cleveland. He expects to travel to Buffalo within a few days. Murphy spoke of the Ave Maria and was glad to see that Bishop Richard Gilmour subscribed to it. He is giving a fortnight's mission here for the Parish and then goes to the Cathedral in Cleveland. There are still places in America that do not have the Ave Maria and in such places he recommends it. He will be in New York and Baltimore during Lent and after Easter he will go West and perhaps may see Hudson. He is grateful for Hudson's kindness in sending him the Ave Maria. He is acquainted with most works of the kind in Europe and America but he has met with nothing like it in the way of Catholic reading. It is interesting and instructive. He wishes to see the Ave in every Catholic home. Hudson's letter with Mr. Collins' directions received. Mr. Collins will be especially looked after. The bank order Hudson mentioned was not enclosed in the letter. Murphy will be at Fethard until August 15. Murphy has not received the July issue of the "Ave Maria." Another chapter of "Irish Legends" will be sent immediately. Murphy is making a trip to America to give a series of lectures on Ireland. The purpose of the lecture tour is to collect funds to pay off a 2000 pound debt on the Jesuit House at Galway. He expects to be in the United States and Canada for about a year and plans to see Hudson. Murphy sends some poetry and plans to send Hudson articles while on his trip. If the terms Printed on the reverse side appeared monthly and in English pounds as well as dollars and cents, and if Gill received extra copies each month, the "Ave Maria" would make greater progress in Ireland.
