Bishop Brandel does not want McMaster to have any misconception of the matter they were talking of this morning. In the official letter of Archbishop James Gibbons the words, "in connection with the Catholic Indian Bureau", may be interpreted two ways. The first and obvious meaning is McMaster's understanding of it, the second and true meaning is that Father Stephan is the Catholic Indian Bureau. :: I-2-e A.L.S. 1p. 12mo.

Scope and Contents Brands was expecting Dr. Holson to go to St. Louis but he has been delayed by the illness of Sister Mary Joseph, S.L.; she has had 28 fits, the last four were epileptic. Brands anointed her and she appeared to revive. All the other Sisters and the Community at the seminary and college are well. Brother Harrington, C.M. is leaving this morning and Sister Angelica, S.L. went home last Wednesday. The Sisters of Loretto are all very obedient and respectful. Their house is not yet finished....

The little colony arrived here yesterday. Their school is increasing. Brands saw Timon's sister, Mrs. Douglas, last Tuesday. She had been very ill the night before.
