Mannix is certain she wrote the poem for the Catholic World. She received "Record of a Suffering Soul", for which she is obliged. Howe's fear, that one's friends will not pray for them once one has died, has often been Mannix's. She requests copies of the Ave Maria which contains the "Despoliation of the Coliseum". Since Mannix has not felt well this summer, she thought of returning Mrs. Blake's volume of poems, due to her inability to write a review of it. Now she submits a short review. She can not agree with the praise of the work by the Boston Pilot, for Mannix does not consider Blake's work equal to that of Adelide Procter . The name of Father Thomas E. Mannix returns the proofs with which she can find no fault. She has some verses in the "Pilot" last week. She sends them to Hudson. Mannix agrees with Hudson that Miss Eleanor Donnelly writes entirely too much. Mannix does not write that way. She writes under inspiration. Mannix thinks it strange that a sketch should be copied from the "Bazar Journal" first by the Ave Maria then by a New Zealand paper, and then by the Catholic Review. She is delighted with "Troubled Heart" and wonders if Mr. Charles Warren Stoddard is the author. When it is published she would like a copy. Mannix feels that Hudson did not care for her "Two Poets". She has not found the Catholic World to be up to standards regarding the type of literature that is admitted to its pages, for many of the stories according to Mannix are coarse and vulgar. Father Augustine Hewit does not see all the material before it is printed.
