He does not know how to answer Hudson's kind letter. Hudson has borne bravely the destruction of the University. On the first free day he will tour his friends for Notre Dame. He sent "Sings and Sonnets" for Hudson alone. J.A. McGee has been very good and confession did it. McGee told Egan that Hudson was very good to him. He sends regards to Professor James F. One of his friends, a publisher, thought of bringing out the book free of cost but his enthusiasm has cooled. He planned on doing it without expenses to the University but Egan will try to think of some other way to help Hudson. He feels that the critique in the " Scholastic" was fair and he is honored that the editor...

Scope and Contents Egan was shocked to hear of the death of Samuel Hudson, Father Hudson's father. His dying in the creed in which he lived showed the honesty of his convictions. Hudson will do Egan a great favor by thanking Professor Timothy E. Howard, whose notice was too good. There are some errors at the beginning of his verses on Eleanor Cecilia Donnelly's book. The secular press in Philadelphia have given kind notices, but Egan has only seen the New York, "Times" and "World". "Preludes" may not sell...

Dallas has no reason to be angry with Hickey as it was Egan who got his poem upside down, and also declined one of his manuscripts, which was excellent but too long. Hudson should make Dallas understand that Mr. Hickey admires him. The "Ave Maria" has improved in the last 2 years. Hudson has too much to do.
