No letter for ever so long. Edwards fears that he can never repay the kindness of Monsignore Germano Straniero. Through his influence he has been presented to the Pope who put his arms around him affectionately and asked many questions about Notre Dame and Father Edward Sorin. The Holy Father gave Edwards a special blessing for the Sisters at Notre Dame. Mgr. Jacobini has been very kind to Edwards. Honors are showered upon Edwards from all sides. He sails Oct. 31.

He lists the paintings by Luigi Gregori he wills to his friend George Rhodius of Indianapolis. He requests the President of the University of Notre Dame to deliver the paintings in good condition. To Mrs. Marie Rhodius he wills a painting and all the cut glass and china in his room. P.S. They are now three days out from New York. A dense fog Surrounds the ship. Very few have been sea sick. The Steamer is the best boat afloat. When in New York Edwards was royally entertained by John Gilmary Shea, Richard H. Clarke, Lawrence Kehoe and the Priests of the Cathedral. He is always delighted to hear from his friends at Notre Dame. He asks to be remembered to his friends at St. Edward's Hall especially the Sorin Society. :: XI-1-g A.L.S. 3pp. 12mo.

Edwards was sorry to hear of Brother Gregory's John Noonan death. He suggests that Hudson and Father Thomas Walsh take a trip to Europe for their health. Archbishops James Gibbons, Patrick J. Ryan, and Father John S. Foley, all stopped at Cape May. Edwards visited each and they promised articles for the Notre Dame Historical Cabinet. Edwards expects to remain in Baltimore until Tuesday then go to Washington and return to Notre Dame via New York.
