The Ave Maria and the Scholastic came in time. Lillian Westervelt is visiting in Kansas City for the winter. Mr. L. Grimm called on him; Grimm was happy that his son was in such a beautiful place and Order. There is great drought near Boston. Father Leo F. O'Neil has been ill since August Father John J. Edwards' letter came today from Maumee. The beautiful presents were great gifts to them � poor mortals. Alice Carroll said the bust was that of St. Francis. The last few days Harvard University spread herself at the inauguration of a new president. There were no degrees given to anyone of the faith. He presumes they are not modern enough. Elliot has found a new religion�old doctrines couched in well-studied Aurelian framed religious phrases. The Scholastic and the Ave Maria came all right with Edwards' letter. He will call on Father Evers. He will see an old friend consecrated Bishop of Jamaica, West Indies, Father John J. Collins, the first Jesuit priest to be consecrated in New York State as a Bishop. Archbishop Farley is the consecrator, with Bishop Camillus Paul Maes and Bishop Thomas Daniel Beaven also present. He can not forget Father Stanislaus Fitte, C.S.C. in his prayers. :: XI-2-j A.L.S. 3pp.

In Asbury ParkDr. Edward McGlynn will address the multitude and the following week some apostate priest will regal the foolish crowd. She has the happiness of going to early Mass everymorning. It is a sad inheritance for derangement has overtaken many members of Miss Brent's family; she has a brother who has been at Mt. Hope for 40 years. The beautiful Madeline is the church from which Mrs. ( ) Brent, her sister and the mother of Mrs. K.D. Fitzhugh of Bay City Mich., was buried in 1846. Her remains are in Pere La Chaise in the vault with her husbands uncle Daniel Brent who was consul for some years at Paris. She was delighted to receive Edwards' letter. The little Church near there is attended by the Franciscan Fathers and has all the privileges for the devotion established by St. Francis of Assisi. Mass was said Aug. 2 for Rebecca Carroll. The priest in charge of the Mission gave her a fourleaf clover and she construed it into a message from St. Francis to join the Third Order. Only think of her being in New York visiting her nephew Mr. William Brent who has come from Lima, Peru, when Edwards was in New York. They are enroute to Washington. Their nephew D. Carroll Fitzhugh will meet them today. They were fearfully disappointed at Atlantic City. The ocean view is crowded out by booths along the board walk. She encloses a letter that might interest Edwards. Mrs. Fitzhugh is their eldest sister. P.S. She suggests that Father General install a "Merry go round" for the minims; it would be a money-making business.

Words cannot express her sorrow when she learned that Edwards had been in Bay Head six times whilst she was there. She was there with her nephew, Carroll Fitzhugh. Emily Brent 's sister, Mrs. R. S.
