Scope and Contents Some time ago a Mrs. F. B. Place told him of her desire to send her son to a Catholic college. He promised if she should run short $50 in her boy's tuition he would pay it. He supposed that his wife knew her but found out that she does not. Mrs. Place wrote from Philadelphia asking for $120 saying that she had been robbed. He did not send her the money on the advice of his wife and Father Mackin. She mentioned Father Schulte of Iowa City as a friend of hers. Connor asks Edwards to check up...

Scope and Contents The mitre he sent belonged to Bishop James Roosevelt Baily Bayley. He now sends one that belonged to Bishop Martin John Spaulding Spalding. In answer to Edward's questions, he would say that the Cardinal needs an ordinary mitre for general use. Parties from Philadelphia have written the Cardinal for relics for a Historical cabinet. Edwards can judge Connor's answer. Connor thinks the west needs building up. Philadelphia has had enough. The Cardinal would prize the mitres Edwards mentions...

Scope and Contents Conroy received Purcell's letter of Sept. 25 and was startled to learn from it the character he has at home and abroad. Purcell believed the admonition required, and his advice was at once accepted. Last week he was obliged to hold ordinations at the Cathedral, this week he is detained by official and financial business that can be handled only by himself, but hopes to leave the city immediately afterwards. Father Edward Coleman would have been affiliated to Albany had he given satisfaction. Coleman had charge of a mission in which there were three churches and some stations; he left all in a worse state than when he had received the church.
