Gallagher, Sister Mary Antonia.Mercedes, Beatty, Pennsylvania, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1891 September 7
Scope and Contents
Sister Hilda Gallagher has been in delicate health the past year. To tell Hudson how delightful the summer at Point Pleasant was would be impossible. Does Hudson know two Pittsburgh sisters were at Notre Dame last summer? They were at Torresdale at Mother Katherine's Drexel convent. She is in her father's old villa with twenty-six novices and postulants. She is building a convent at Andalusia. They just missed Father Fidelis Stone, C.P., who was visiting the Smiths and will carry off Father Maurice Smith, C.P., to South America. They went to Long Branch to visit her invalid cousin, Mrs. Anthony Joseph Drexel. Her husband Anthony Joseph Drexel and George W. Childs drove them around the West End. They were at Manhattanville, New York and found the Superior, Madame Frances Elder to be an old classmate of hers. Father James A. Doonan, S.J., was giving the Retreat and Father Francis McCarthy, S.J., was their chaperon. Sister had a long chat with Sister Elizabeth Ten Broeck, R.S.H. at Eden Hall. :: X-3-m A.L.S. 8pp. 12mo. 12
