Balasanni, Father S. Joseph, Nellore, India, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1891
Scope and Contents
Balasanni has been thinking about penning a few lines about their Telugu magazine, the only Catholic paper for the Archdiocese of Madras. He is sending the annual report of the Telugu Literature Association. The donation they have received from Europe has lifted them above the water mark. They have American Baptists as their neighbors who cause mischief. They convert people by means of money. On account of them the heathens see all Christians in the same light. The caste system and family ties are in the way of conversion of the heathen. A native priest, Father J. E. Balanader, converted two villages of high caste people and Father Kroot converted a whole village. Balasanni asks for a free copy of the Ave Maria monthly for the Telugu people. He encloses a specimen of Telugu printing. :: X-3-m A.L.S. 10pp. 12mo.
