Malbon, Charles, Durham, England, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1890 November 3

 Item — Box: CHUD 15
Identifier: CHUD X-3-l

Scope and Contents

In 1866 Malbon's parents became annual subscribers to the Ave Maria. The magazine became his familiar companion. Early in 1872 Malbon's parents left Canada and since then until this year they have not seen the Ave Maria. Malbon is in Deacon's Orders. His present position he owes in large measure to the Ave Maria. Malbon sends a copy of the poems of R. H. Domenichetti, an Englishman educated at Oxford where he fell in with some young men with ritualistic tendencies. He was received into the Church by the Jesuits of Oxford. Dr. Edward King, present Protestant Bishop of Lincoln, did all in his power to draw him back. Domenichetti left Oxford with the permission of his Bishop, Dr. Arthur Riddel; he returned to contest for the Newdigate Prize, which he won in 1885. Domenichetti is coming in a few days to St. Cuthbert's College to begin a three years' course of divinity for the priesthood. His conversion has been a great blow to his Protestant relatives. Stonyhurst alone of any Catholic College in England approaches St. Cuthbert's. :: X-3-l A.L.S. 8pp. 16mo.
