Hill, C.P., Father Edmund, Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1890 August 3
Scope and Contents
Hill sent Father Fidelis Stone, C.P. three sonnets to be forwarded to Hudson. He is going to write to one of the General Consultors in Rome to see if he can be dispensed from sending his contributions to Chile first. When Father Thomas Stefanini was provincial in the United States, he did not require Hill to submit for his approval, what he wrote for the Ave Maria. However, Stone is fidgety as to what might be said at Rome. The latest news from Chile is that the foundation is a success. Stone has recovered from the effects of the kick. Hill has told Father Constantine that he will get "Short Cut" cheaper direct from Hudson. Revolution broke out in the city last evening. The majority of the troops in the city have gone over to the Union Circa against the present government. They hope the revolution will succeed quickly for the government must be changed. No news has reached them and very few attended Mass. Wednesday, July 30; Hill has just finished the short story for the Youth Department entitled "What Our Lady of Lourdes Did for Little Rufina" Coffin. She was an American child, who recently died in La Plata. Sunday, August 3; The revolution did come to a sudden end. The commanding general could have captured the Government House after the first victory, and then all could have accepted the Revolution. It is said the President will resign. The letter will go August 6. :: X-3-l A.L.S. 5pp. 12mo.
