Fallize, C.S.C., Father Michael Ph., Chittagong, India, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1889 January 27
Scope and Contents
Fallize sends news of the missions of the Congregation of Holy Cross in East Bengal. His present concern is his congregation in Chittagong and in Akyal, the missionaries in their respective fields of labor, and providing for the missionaries' needs. Father-General Edward Sorin, C.S.C. has promised four or five priests in the fall and possibly some sisters, but considerable material assistance will be needed for the maintenance and building of churches, schools, hospitals and orphanages. He asks Hudson to recommend their work to the readers of the Ave Maria. The need for Catholic missionaries and material assistance from American Catholics is great and can do much good in India. The former Administrator Apostolic of the Diocese of Dacca, Bishop Gregory De Groote, O.S.B. has departed from the mission. He was to leave his faculties to another member of the Benedictines. Could Father Alexis Granger, C.S.C. send some Mass intentions. :: X-3-i A.L.S. 4pp. 12mo.
