The poem "Our Lady's Intervention" by J. Ryan published in the Ave Maria of September 15, 1888 reminds Boyle of a similar incident concerning a fire in Gonzales, Texas. The man who invoked the intercession of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, told Boyle that he had attended a mission given by Father Arnold Damen, who spoke on the virtue of using the brown Scapular in invoking the aid of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
