Welch, S.J., Father Edward H., Washington, District of Columbia, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1888 June 30
Scope and Contents
Father Robert Fulton, S.J., is no longer Provincial, but has been succeeded by Father Thomas J. Campbell, S.J., former rector of Fordham College. Welch will give retreats at Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts the priests of the Springfield diocese, Rochester, New York and Philadelphia during the summer. Hudson perhaps heard of the rise in the price of real estate in the district where the president of Georgetown College purchased a country home. This enabled the college to sell a piece of property which was useless to it for $80,000. Welch inquires if Hudson saw two articles in the Advertiser on Indulgences. He believes Hudson could reproduce one of them with profit. What a frightful perversion is Monsignor Louis Bouland's; he had charge of the French church in Boston. Welch dined with James Cardinal Gibbons last Sunday at the dedication of a church at Hyattsville. Bishop Alfred Curtis preached. :: X-3-g A.L.S. 4pp. 12mo.
