Mannix, Mary E., Cincinnati, Ohio, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1886 December 22

 Item — Box: CHUD 10
Identifier: CHUD X-3-b

Scope and Contents

Mannix is disappointed about the sketch of Superior Louise. She is sure it must have been Sister Alphonse who wrote to Hudson. Does Hudson know that the sisters want Mannix to write a life of Sister Louise ? "Our Lady's Cradle song" was not written by Mannix. Mannix thinks the poem Hudson intends for the month of the Holy Infancy is one of the best she has ever written. What a good story-teller T. F. Galwey is getting to be. Both Mrs. and Miss Dorsey are excellent writers. Eliza Allen Starr has an interesting article in the last Catholic World on the Nativity in Art. Egan's Chats about Books are a little better. Archbishop William H. Elder does not approve of their beginning a "Messenger of the Holy Face". He thought the Jesuits or the priests at Notre Dame could do much better. Mannix is writing for the Christmas paper Margaret E. McCabe is getting out for the newsboys. The Catholic Tribune, the colored people's paper, is neither fish nor flesh. The editor, Dr. Watson is intelligent and good looking. :: X-3-b A.L.S. Letter cut 8pp. 8vo.
