Dorsey, Anna Hanson, Washington, District of Columbia, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1886 September 31
Scope and Contents
Dorsey sends notes on the early Italians. Dorsey knows as well as Maurice Francis Egan that Italy had no standard language in 253 to 260. Bishop John Joseph Keane thought the criticism contained in Hudson's letter hypercriticism. Dorsey is indifferent to the criticism of Egan because she does not consider him an authority. Her unfortunate story will soon end. Dorsey is making her last appearance on the stage of literature. She ran the first furrow in the field of American Catholic light literature. Mrs. Anna T. Sadlier followed, then others, but Dorsey should not like it to be forgotten that she led the way. Dr. Charles Constantine Pise, S.J., had written one short story called "Father Clement". :: X-3-c A.L.S. 8pp. 12mo.
