Martin is the English translator of Monsieur Lasserre's book "Miraculous Episodes of Lourdes" and the sister of Katherine Martin who wrote to Hudson on the subject of the book. The tone of Hudson's letter encouraged Martin to tell Hudson about her sister's activities. Two years ago, Martin resolved secretly never to accept pecuniary compensation for her book, but made a compact with Our Lady that she would do the book in question if she would convert her sister Katherine.
