Toohey, C.S.C., Father John M., Valparaiso, Indiana, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1886 March 2
Scope and Contents
Toohey was unable to find the mislaid manuscript of Garcia Moreno, before leaving Notre Dame to fill in for for Father Michael O'Reilly at Valparaiso. He will finish Dante soon and has returned Longfellow's translation to James Edwards and Luigi Gregori's Italian copy. Can Hudson get someone to examine Kenelm Henry Digby's "Mores Catholici" to determine if this German is a translation from his work? Digby speaks of Dante's devotion to Mary and Toohey wonders if the writer in Der Katholik merely translated. The article of Dante if not from Digby might be credited to Edward Vogt in Der Katholik. The article on Blessed Berchmans' prayer to Our Lady is in a copy of Diario Mariano. Perhaps Dr. Howley would put it in English. :: X-3-b A.L.S. 2pp. 4to.
