The new white wool habits are difficult to keep clean and to get supplies of. They could wear white silk more cheaply. She has to leave Europe to her great regret. Monsignor Cajetan Masella tells Sister that hypnotism has attracted the attention of the Italian government and that the Jesuits have written against it in Civilta Cattolica. Sister has read of the influence of hypnotism on plants. Many persons make no distinction between spiritism and mesmerism. There were stirring times at Notre Dame with the General Chapter. They expect the Provincial from Ireland this month to hold their Visitation. Monsignor John Baptist Guidi is always scolding them for being too "severe" but Sister told him he had no right to censure them for obeying existing laws. They say the Nunzio will soon be recalled to Rome and made successor to Cardinal Ludovici Jacobini :: X-3-a A.L.S. 8pp. 12mo.
