Richardson, Marion Muir, Morrison, Colorado, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1885 January 15

 Item — Box: CHUD 7
Identifier: CHUD X-2-o

Scope and Contents

Muir is surprised that anyone spoke ill of her. Professor Arthur Stace is in complete error in affirming that Muir printed private letters. She explains her anger as hereditary madness, admitting that she is not much of a Christian. Unlike a Catholic girl, Muir found it impossible to avoid the confidences of the wretched and poor. The problem of Catholic marriage is that women are sold and deceived into the power of brutal men, who spend the nights at the Palace theater and Sunday morning at the Cathedral. Notre Dame people are gentlemen as far as Muir knows, but Notre Dame is not the Catholic World. What provokes Muir is the constant mixed marriage business when a girl has no chance to make any other kind. To be deceived in man or woman is nothing; to be deceived through one's religion is a deadly wound. Professor Joseph Lyons is a gentleman, who never was a correspondent of Muir's. Stace was amusing until Muir played a joke on him, after that their acquaintance was a series of quarrels. :: X-2-o A.L.S. 4pp. 12mo.
