Mac Donnell, Sister Mary Magdalene, Lisbon, Portugal, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1884 September 24
Scope and Contents
Sister sends a few manuscripts. She encloses a letter from Burns and one of Mrs. Anna Hanson Dorsey 's, which Hudson sent her. They are expecting a cholera epidemic which will ravage Lisbon because the drainage is terrible. The Portuguese say there is no remedy but they are too inert. There is a wave of suicides among young men and women and the journals have agreed not to publish these accounts because it only increases the morbid mania. One of the Sisters seeks some information through Hudson regarding Father Thomas F. Gunn, pastor in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Her brother, the late Father Patrick F. Harrison, was pastor in Georgetown, Iowa before he entered the Benedictine Order in Conception, Missouri. :: X-2-n A.L.S. 10pp. 12mo.
