Lambing, Father Andrew A., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1882 October 13

 Item — Box: CHUD 4
Identifier: CHUD X-2-j

Scope and Contents

Lambing's preoccupation with putting the financial affairs of his new parish in order has kept him from contributing to the Ave Maria. The parishioners have suffered from the effects of a strike. Bishop John Tuigg will not change Lambing. The congregation is unable to pay its debts and if the church is closed they would have to attend the cathedral, which many would be unable to do. Lambing put up a memorial to commemorate the erection of a chapel in 1754-58 to the Blessed Virgin at Fort Duquesne. He proposes, if the bishop approves, to appeal to Catholics for funds in behalf of the memorial. To promote the drive, Lambing is publishing a pamphlet on the history of the chapel and will send one to Hudson. He asks Hudson if he may use the subscription list of the Ave Maria, so that he might acquaint Catholics with the project. :: X-2-j A.L.S. 4pp. 4to.
