Thorpe thanks Hudson for the invitation to visit Notre Dame, but due to the press of parish work he will be unable to accept the invitation. He thinks it proper that he give a lecture on John Cardinal Newman should he later accept the invitation. Thorpe knew Denis Florence McCarthy but not as well as he knew Newman.
