Schlichter, H., Columbus, Ohio, to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1880 September 15

 Item — Box: CHUD 2
Identifier: CHUD X-2-g

Scope and Contents

Schlichter is convinced that he is preparing for his true vocation. Hudson is correct in saying that we cannot judge our neighbors intentions. If people were mistaken in Schlichter's behalf, there is reason to believe they acted in good faith. It was God who directed Schlichter's life for the past 12 years and not his creatures. He has had many trials and difficulties since leaving Notre Dame, which probably arose from his own conduct but he is doing his best to amend. Schlichter is making good headway in his studies and in teaching. Even though he may not reach his coveted aim, he is doing the work of God. Schlichter has arranged "A Case of Possession" for the Waisenfreund and it will be in print in the next issue. He will send 6 copies to Hudson. Mr. Weber may give 2 of them to his friend Father Frere, who is the author of the manuscript. The report of the confraternity has been missed by Schlichter, but he has not seen the Ave Maria very often. Father Granger has been more a father and friend even though their views do not always coincide. Granger will be glad to hear Schlichter did not forget the lessons he gave him. :: X-2-g A.L.S. 4pp. 12mo
