White, Rhoda E., to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1879 June 7
Scope and Contents
Hudson's review of the "Two Brides" in the Ave Maria brought tears to the eyes of the author who was so grateful to find her high aim had found a response in Hudson's heart. She asks Hudson if he read the life of Jenny C. White, the daughter of the late Judge James W. White. Rose and Arey were drawn from real life as were the other characters described by Father O'Reilly. She asks Hudson to scatter this novel to help elevate our youth. She has the pleasure of reading the Doctor's manuscript before it goes to the printer. They have Catholic novels issued by Catholic publishers and written by Catholic priests that would not be allowed in a Protestant house for an hour, so she thinks that everyone should hail such an author as Dr. Bernard O'Reilly and take part in spreading his works. P.S. Her husband was a nephew of Gerald Griffin, of Limerick. She has two sisters-in-law and one daughter who are Nuns of the Sacred Heart. :: X-2-e A.L.S. 3pp. 12mo.
