Dorsey, Anna H., Washington, D.C. To Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1876? December 27
Scope and Contents
She received Hudson's letter and in regard to it she states that she was happy to learn that Hudson does not attribute any ulterior motives to her in connection with the longevity of "Tangled Paths." At present she expects to have it concluded by February first but it would be impossible to finish it sooner without harming her own reputation as a writer and without dissatisfying the people who have been faithfully reading it. She believes "Tangled Paths" to be suitable for publication as a book but she has hesitated to arrange for this for two reasons. First, the thought of having to bargain with publishers, the very people who have swindled her so many times, appears exceedingly repulsive. Second, she thought that the Ave Maria might like to include it as one of the series of the Notre Dame Library as they have done to several of her other stories. Hudson's aid in selling the copyright to "Tangled Paths" would be greatly appreciated. She expects to be paid at the same rate for the conclusion of the story as she was paid for the previous part. She agrees to send the Ave Maria occasional short articles but she refuses to consider writing another like "Tangled Paths." :: X-2-d A.L.S. 4pp. 12mo.
