Document. All three authors are writing as members of Pax Christi USA ~ Zahn--"Nuclear Weapons: The Problem With Possession"; Keenan--"Pope John Paul II As Peacemaker"; Szura--"Is Disarmament Realistic Love?" ~ All three articles appeared on different dates in Western Michigan Catholic. ~ Gordon, 8/12--Gordon writes in anticipation of the American hierarchy's statement on war and peace. He says that although the bishops have condemned the use and threat of use of nuclear weapons, they have not addressed the issue of the production and possession of nuclear weapons which Gordon claims is active and continuing preparation for nuclear war. Keenan, 7/22--Marjorie recounts Pope John Paul II's work for peace and his statements, one being that human dignity is undermined whenever we do not do everything possible to preserve peace. He also states that it is urgent that the world equip itself with effective means of negotiation, and work for justice in order to achieve peace. Szura, 8/19--John addresses the concern of some Catholics that the condemnation of nuclear weapons on the basis of Christian love is not realistic. He denounces the idea that there are good and evil countries, and makes a popular appeal saying that we are all equally human. ~ Western Michigan Catholic ~ Grand Rapids, MI
