Document. A note to Gordon from Peter of COMMONWEAL says that he is returning the revised edition of Gordon's essay for additional changes and approval from Gordon. Gordon's 8 page essay is attached. He warns that the nation is slipping toward a reinstatement of peacetime conscription. HE outlines some if the immediate tasks facing organized relition, especially the Catholic church. He says that courses should be offered dealing with the issues of war and peace, and draft couseling should be provided to those who face the decision to register or not, adivising them of their rights and responsibilities. He also says that for those who claim CO status, alternative service possibilities need to be provided. Finally, he calls for a more intense commitment on the part of religious circles to take a determined stand against war.
