Document, Letters. Letter to Fr. O'Hare of AMERICA with article from Gordon, return letter to Gordon, a reply to Fr. O'Hare with suggested revisions for the article attached. ~ 7/2 Gordon sends the article in and asks that the editors of AMERICA consider it for publication or send it back so he can send it elsewhere. 7/9 Fr. O'Hare writes back saying that they have decided to publish the article and points out a few areas where Gordon might consider revisions. 7/15 Gordon writes back that he reviewed his article in light of the suggestions, has included some minor revisions, but that he wants it printed largely as it was originally written. Gordon's 11-page article responds to Carter's decision that the Selective Service can again register young Americans, and makes the point that Crhristians and Catholics should consider what they and their church can to do stop the accelerating drift toward war. He discusses several statements that the church has issued in the past, and puts forth several arguments against the morality and judgement of having peacetime conscription.
