General

Document. 16-page article written for U.S. CATHOLIC along with a short note to the editor saying it turned out better than he thought it would and asking for a reaction. ~ Gordon comments on the different religious factions and tensions that were taking place at the time of the revolutionary war. He focuses mostly on the Catholic stance and actions. He reviews the just war stance and says that revolutions violate the conditions. He makes the point that few would consider recent events based on similar principles to provide grounds sufficient to justify a violent revolution. His main claim is that violence of any kind cannot be reconciled with the teaching of the Church.
