Document. Contributor to COMMONWEAL, involved in regional CPF activities ~ "The Future of the Catholic Peace Movement" ~ Columns in the "an exchange of views" section of COMMONWEAL by both Michael True and Gordon Zahn. ~ Michael writes in response to Zahn's discussion of the future of the Catholic peace movement. He compliments Zahn on many counts, but questions his recommendations that members of the movement should remain loyal and committed members of the institutional Church. He asks how can one not question the divisions of racism, sexism, capitalism and parochialism that exist in the Church, and says that Gordon's definition of Catholic is too narrow. Gordon responds that the Church has all the failings that Michael pointed out and more; however the failings must be corrected and the corrections must come from within the Church through efforts of those who have the respect and love for the Church to abide by its rules and practices while they are affecting the necessary changes. He asks where the Church and the Catholic peace movement would be if it did not have faithful members such as Thomas Merton and Dorothy Day. ~ Commonweal ~ 3/8 ~ 14-15
