Two letters to the editor commenting on Gordon's article are attached. ~ Gordon says Spotts book gives well balanced attention to the study of Catholic and Protestant concerns and theological interpretations bearing upon Church-state relations in Germany. It addresses the troubling question of how the Church should involve itself in political affairs. Gordon comments that a Church whose leaders do not attempt to influence some political outcomes or decisions would be abondoning its mission.
