Documents. Contributor to COMMONWEAL ~ James O'Gara of COMMONWEAL sends a copy of Mike True's article to Gordon asking him to write a response to be published in COMMONWEAL. A copy of True's article is attached as is Gordon's response. ~ True's article is written in response to Gordon's article concerning the future of the Catholic Peace Movement. He compliments Gordon on numerous counts, but asks how he can recommend that members of the peace movement present themselves as loyal and committed members to the institutional Church which is racist, sexist, capitalist, and parochial. He says that Gordon's definition of Catholic is too narrow and he is counting out many members of the peace movement. Gordon responds that True's charges of the Church are accurate; however those who love the Church must work for changes in the institution from within, enduring some of its demands in the process. He asks where the Church would be if pacifists such as Dorothy Day and Thomas Merton has worked from outside the institutional Church. ~ 2/23--Gordon's response date
