Letters. President of U of Mass. ~ Correspondence back and forth regarding Lederle's decision to call in state police to remove student protestors. ~ Gordon first writes Lederle to protest his decision to call in state police, and offers his views against recruiting on campus. Lederle responds that the decision to allow recruiting on campus was made by both the student and faculty senate, and he was only enforcing the decision. Gordon responds by saying that he is disturbed by the insistance of going by the rule book and that policies and rules should be "open in application to wisdom and considerations of prudence." He protests against the university becoming an extension of the office of Dow Chemical or any similar business or government agency, and compares it to the probable recruitment of chemists and engineers in Nazi Germany to further the war efforts. ~ 2/14, 2/19, 2/27
