General
Document. General review of the book with special attention paid to fact that the author's (Saul Freidlander) "documentation is of immense value in that it can serve as a corrective to the more extreme attacks mounted against Pius XII." The Pope, in this book, is found to be a man very "troubled by the awful events" taking place and his "helplessnes in the face of such concentrated evil." Freidlander's analysis of his "documentation" puts stress on two main factors. The factors being; "the Pope's personal attachment for Germany and the German people" and that of the fact that the Pope "was deeply commited to the cause of international peace."
