Kenrick takes advantage of Father Stanislaus Buteux's trip to New Orleans to tell Blanc of his deep sorrow at seeing Blanc so insulted by some unfortunate so-called Catholics. Today Kenrick found among the letters which Bishop Joseph Rosati received from the Pope, the brief which Leo XII had sent him at the time of the claims of the trustees. :: V-4-n

Although he has already replied through Father Joseph A. Lutz to two letters, Kenrick takes advantage of Father Stanislaus Buteux's trip to New Orleans to thank Rousselon for dispatching Bishop Joseph Rosati 's business at New Orleans. He also wants to tell of his deep interest in the glorious battle which Bishop Anthony Blanc has begun with the trustees of his cathedral. He mailed some more old documents to Edwards. He had many dated in the 30's and 40's from members of religious communities, but they contained private matters as well as interesting transactions, and therefore he destroyed them. Kenrick asks Kelly, after his retreat, to present the enclosed bill to Bishop Francis P. McFarland for payment. Patrick Goodwin said to send his bill to the Bishop. It amounts to $80, $65 for board and tuition and $15 cash for going home. ` P.S. He will send the New Haven boys' bills when Kelly gets there. Father McCabe will tell him about Goodwin if necessary. He believes that the Conferences of Angers do not regard the consent solemnly given in front of? the Church, so that the woman has reason to regard it as sincere. His Eminence, the Cardinal Prefect acknowledged Kenrick's list for the office of Rector of the American College in Rome and requests him to urge other archbishops to express their views on the subject to the Sacred Congregation. Father Thomas Foley requested his name to be withdrawn. The Sacred Congregation wants the College to have a national character as well as a Catholic character.
