Abstract

A large photo album containing panoramic views of Mexican cities and towns as well as photographs of major monuments and tourist sites in Mexico City. The album also illustrates the growth of the Mexican National Railroad, including images of locomotives and railroad tunnels and bridges. Photos date to the late nineteenth century and many can be attributed to known photographers or studios, including William Henry Jackson, Gove and North, and Abel Briquet.

Scope and Contents 1 album; 71 photographs accompanied by 16 pages of handwritten text in German. Album includes photographs of Bund Deutscher Mädel (German League Girls) during their hiking trip to Danzig (Gdansk, Poland) and the Baltic Sea from Friday, August 16th to Tuesday, September 3rd, 1940. While a majority of the materials are products of the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976), also included in the Collection are non-political cultural items from the Republican Period (1911-1949), and from before and after the Cultural Revolution.
