Content Description
Bound typescripts of two unpublished works of boxing history, written by Meriwether Liston Lewis of Nashville, Tennessee. The first manuscript, "Gloveless Gladiators of America," is a history of boxing in America during the nineteenth century. The second manuscript, "Jake Kilrain: Athlete-Warrior-Gentleman" consists of four sections and is a full biography of Kilrain.

Biographical / Historical
Meriwether Liston Lewis (1877-1969) was a long-time reference librarian at the Nashville Public Library. He researched and wrote about American history and authored and co-authored several books. Lewis also wrote about boxing for Nashville newspapers and was a long-time student of the sport.
