Scope and Contents

A collection of original poems in Greek by Vagenas that also includes translations into Greek of poems by a number of other poets: Guilaaume Apollinaire, W.H. Auden, John Berryman, Jorge Luis Borges, Richard Burns, Italo Calvino, e.e. cummings, T.S. Eliot, Allen Ginsberg, John Matthias, Henri Michaux, Eugenio Montale, Marianne Moore, Octavio Paz, Ezra Pound, Jacques Prévert, Carl Sandburg, Wallace Stevens, William Carlos Williams, and Andrea Zanzotto. The title is taken from that of a Stevens poem. A letter from Vagenas to Matthias dated 8th May 1990, requesting "Northern Summer" (see Folder 11). A letter from Richard Burns (see Folders 31-40) to Matthias dated 29th January 1990, suggesting he contact Vagenas, and discussing family life.
