Newspaper clipping on executions in Theresienstadt, undated

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 7
Identifier: MSE/MD 6414-07

Scope and Contents

One clipping from an unidentified newspaper reporting that due to the advance of the Red Army, prisoners could not be sent to the gas chambers in Auschwitz and Maidanek. As a result, Kaltenbrunner had sought to establish gas chambers in areas not yet occupied by Allied forces. Theresienstadt was chosen as such a location. Due to delays, the camp was liberated before all prisoners could be exected as planned, though 49 young prisoners were shot to death just an hour before the camp was liberated on May 8, 1945.
