Background

The local chapter was founded in 1945, as an affiliate of the national AAUP, for the purpose of "facilitating a more effective cooperation among teachers" and promoting "the standards, ideals, and welfare of the profession." The chapter's activities include researching and publishing reports on faculty compensation, academic freedom, and tenure; offering advice to Notre Dame administration on academic, administrative, and disciplinary matters; and publishing a newsletter.
