Scope and Content
Russian and French manuscripts, notes, bibliographical material, and transcriptions of early sources for the study of St. Maxim the Greek, about whom Denissoff wrote a prize-winning book, Maxime le Grec et l'Occident, contribution à l'histoire de la pensée religieuse et philosophique de Michel Trivolis (Paris: Desclée, de Brouwer, 1943), with a small quantity of material having to do with his other books and research.

Background
Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, 11 January 1893, Elie Denissoff was secretary to the Russian prime minister at the time of the 1917 Revolution. He converted from the Russian Orthodox Church to Roman Catholicism in 1924, married in 1924, and had three children. He earned a Ph.D. at Louvain in 1942, taught as a Notre Dame philosophy professor, 1948-1958, and later served as head of the philosophy department at St. Procopius College. In 1955 he was ordained a priest and in 1959 became a Monsignor.
