He received Purcell's letter notifying him of his appointment by the Holy Father as the successor of Bishop Frederick Baraga. He submits to the decision of the Holy Father and will come down as soon as the roads are settled and the stage begins to run, perhaps after Christmas or New Year's. P.S.—Dated Dec. 24.
