He found Purcell's letter on his return from the wild regions along the Illinois River. Father Caspar A. Gerst wrote that he was ordained by Purcell, that he went to the Benedictines and later to the Trappists in Europe. For three years he has abstained from liquor. Juncker sent him to Springfield for a while but he will not keep him against Purcell's wishes. Juncker has no objection to extending mercy and charity to Gerst. :: II-5-d A.L.S. 3pp. 12mo.
