The bearer of this letter, Patrick Day, wishes to marry a blood-relation. She is, by her mother, his relative in the second degree, and, by his father, the third degree. Fitzgerald knows he can dispense the first relation but because of the double relationship he has refused to marry them. Day now solicits Purcell's dispensation by stating the facts of the case.
