Luers, John H., Bishop of Fort Wayne, Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Archbishop John Baptist Purcell, of Cincinnati, Ohio, 1861 October 7
Scope and Contents
When he was made bishop, the Precious Blood Fathers offered to take up a collection for him at Minster and other congregations. Luers begged them to wait until he should need it more. The congregation of Mishawaka, Indiana lost their school and church with all its contents, by fire. There was no insurance. The congregation of 125 German and Irish families is very poor. It will be impossible for them to get through without assistance. Luers asks Purcell to give Father Henry Koenig, the pastor, permission to take up a collection in those places mentioned. Luers will regard it as a favor bestowed on him personally. :: II-5-a A.L.S. 3pp. 12mo.
