Clarke would take great pleasure in journeying to Notre Dame if such be the wish of the University. At present there are some obstacles. Clarke recently met with a severe accident when he fell from his horse. The trip will have to be undertaken when Clarke has recovered, in a month or six weeks. Clarke suggests that the University send the medal to the Archbishop of New York and that it be conferred at the Catholic Club of New York. Clarke sympathizes with the gentlemen at Notre Dame over the death of Professor Lyons. He asks to be remembered to Egan. How does Egan like the change from New York to Notre Dame? P.S. Clarke thinks Bishop John Ambrose Watterson alluded to a journal of Bishop Sylvester Rosecrans. Cardinal James Gibbons lent Clarke a journal of Archbishop James Roosevelt Bayley. Bishop John J.
